Peek-A-Boo (2017) brings a raw, unsettling vibe that lingers long after the credits roll. The atmosphere is thick with dread, almost suffocating at times. You can feel the tension building, mixed with some surprisingly effective practical effects that elevate its horror moments. It has this strange, almost dreamlike pacing that adds to the overall eeriness. The performances are genuine, you can see the characters’ fear feels real, which helps the viewer become invested. Themes of childhood innocence clashing with dark realities run throughout, and it’s this contrast that makes it stand out in the indie horror landscape. Not perfect, but there’s a certain charm in its rough edges that I find intriguing.
