So, Pinocchio's Revenge, directed by Kevin Tenney, is one of those late 90s horror flicks that plays around with darker themes of childhood innocence and the supernatural. The film sets a pretty eerie tone right from the start, thanks to the unsettling backstory of the puppet, which adds a nice layer of mystery. The pacing is a bit uneven at times, but it picks up as Zoe's bond with the Pinocchio doll deepens. There's something about the practical effects that gives it a gritty feel, which is refreshing in an era of CGI. Performances are, well, mixed, but they capture the almost childlike wonder and dread. It’s distinctive for how it melds the whimsical with the macabre, making you question what’s real versus imagined.
