Planet of Storms is quite a fascinating piece from the early 60s Soviet sci-fi scene, directed by Pavel Klushantsev. The atmosphere is heavy, laden with tension as cosmonauts venture onto Venus, where the landscape is vividly alien and brimming with life—most of which is rather threatening. The practical effects create this surreal otherworldly vibe, and while I wouldn't say the pacing is relentless, it does maintain a steady grip on your attention, making the moments of danger feel palpable. The performances are earnest, which adds to the overall charm; they really sell the sense of wonder and peril. It’s distinctive for its unique blend of Soviet optimism and existential dread—a true product of its time.
