Playing Through is an interesting character study, really. It unfolds in real-time, mostly on the golf course, where Brandon tries to lighten Nathan's mood as they fumble through their game. The atmosphere is tense, but there's this undercurrent of camaraderie that makes it engaging. The pacing can feel slow, but it’s deliberate; each shot and each silence hangs heavy with Nathan's dread of that impending phone call about his health. The performances are raw, with a lot of unsaid emotions. You get the sense that what’s happening off-screen weighs more than the golf itself. It’s a unique portrayal of friendship in the face of mortality, and that blend is what makes it memorable in its own way.
