So, Pokémon: Mewtwo - Prologue to Awakening is quite an interesting short. It has this eerie vibe that really sets the stage for what’s to come in Genesect and the Legend Awakened. The animation quality feels pretty solid, especially for a TV special. Pacing is brisk, which works well to keep things engaging, though some might argue it rushes through certain concepts. The themes of identity and belonging come across strongly; Mewtwo's complexity is at the forefront, which adds a nice depth. The performances, though mostly voice acting, have that classic Pokémon charm but also hint at darker undertones, which is distinctive for the franchise. Overall, it feels like both a setup and a standalone piece, not just another filler.
