Poltergays is a curious blend of comedy and horror that really plays with societal norms. The film’s premise is both amusing and thought-provoking, as it flips the script on the traditional ghost story by having the antagonists be the ones with the real haunting issues. The pacing feels a bit uneven at times, but that adds to the overall charm. The practical effects are surprisingly effective, especially for a low-budget flick, and the performances from the cast really help bring out the ridiculousness of the situation. Tanner and Derek's chemistry is a bright spot, and watching Perry and Tiff stumble through their own biases makes for some poignant moments amid the laughs. It’s distinctive in its approach to themes of acceptance and the absurdity of homophobia.
