Poltergeist is a real gem in the horror genre, directed by Tobe Hooper and co-written by Spielberg. It’s got this eerie suburban vibe that just creeps under your skin. The practical effects are something else—those faces peeling off the wallpaper and the tree reaching for the kids have a rawness that CGI just can't replicate. The pacing is fascinating too; it starts slow but builds tension well-crafted. The performances, especially from JoBeth Williams and Heather O'Rourke, really ground the supernatural chaos in genuine fear and emotion. Plus, that chilling score by Jerry Goldsmith adds a whole other layer of dread. It’s one of those films that lingers long after the credits roll.
Released June 4, 1982, by MGM.Filmed in Cuesta Park, California.Notable for practical effects by ILM.Rated PG, yet quite intense for its time.
