POOL is quite an intriguing piece, really. It delves deep into Willem's psyche, this young Norwegian guy grappling with selective mutism, which makes for a unique exploration of social isolation. The atmosphere is almost suffocating; you can really feel his anxiety and the weight of his silence. The pacing is deliberately slow, almost meditative, allowing you to sit with Willem’s thoughts as he observes life happening around him. I found those strange encounters he has really brought a surreal quality to the narrative, like they're pushing him to confront his existential dread. The performances, though understated, are raw and compelling, making the film distinctive in its quiet yet resonant storytelling.
