Poseidon Rex, released in 2014, takes us on a wild ride with Jackson Slate, a treasure hunter chasing the Lost Gold of Cortez. The film's atmosphere, set on a remote Caribbean island, is thick with the tension of both action and horror, especially as Slate's crew unwittingly awakens an ancient predator. The pacing feels a bit uneven at times, but it kind of adds to the charm. The practical effects show their age, yet there's something endearing about the creature design. Performances are serviceable but not groundbreaking, which fits the overall vibe of the film nicely. It’s that kind of movie where you can appreciate the low-budget creativity, even if it doesn't take itself too seriously.
