Powder, directed by Victor Salva, is one of those films that sticks with you, even if it's not everyone's cup of tea. There's a strange, almost ethereal atmosphere throughout, thanks in part to the cinematography, which evokes a sense of isolation and wonder. The pacing can feel slow at times, but it gives room for the character development, particularly with the lead performance by Sean Patrick Flanery, who really embodies the vulnerability and depth of the character. The practical effects, especially in the scenes showcasing Powder's abilities, are pretty engaging—there’s a rawness to them that's refreshing compared to today's CGI-heavy landscape. It treads heavy themes of acceptance and the consequences of being different, making it a unique watch in the fantasy drama realm.
