So, 'President' is this quirky comedy-drama set in a high school that’s pretty much on the brink of chaos. Robert Stevens, the student council president, is your classic overachiever, but he’s also relatable – I mean, he genuinely wants to fix things up, even if his methods are a bit unconventional. The pacing is interesting; it sometimes drags in places but picks up when the ensemble cast gets involved. The themes of ambition and youth feel fresh, and there’s a nice authenticity to the school setting. Not much in the way of practical effects, but the performances, especially from the lead, give it this offbeat charm. Definitely stands out amongst the usual teen fare.
