Psycho (1998), directed by Gus Van Sant, is an interesting venture into a classic horror territory. It has this eerie atmosphere, echoing Hitchcock's original but with a more subdued and almost modern take. The pacing can be slow for some, but it builds tension effectively as we follow the young embezzler. The Bates Motel feels just as sinister, and the production does a solid job of capturing the original's unsettling charm. There are some practical effects that stand out, even in this reimagining, which is a nice touch. The performances are worth mentioning too; Vince Vaughn's portrayal of Norman Bates is distinct, diverging from Anthony Perkins but still giving us that unsettling presence. It’s a film that makes you think about the shadows of its predecessor while forging its own path.
