Rasam (2015) weaves a subtle narrative around family and responsibility in the backdrop of a wedding catering business. The film captures the essence of a bustling kitchen, where flavors and emotions intertwine. Balu stepping in for his father Vasu adds a personal touch, exploring themes of duty and pressure. The pacing has this nice ebb and flow, as we see the chaos of wedding preparations contrasted with deeper character moments. Performances are grounding, you can really feel the struggles and triumphs of each character. It’s distinctive for its use of practical effects to portray the food and the atmosphere, which feels very authentic. The tension builds nicely, making you invested in how Balu manages not just the catering, but his own internal conflicts too. Definitely an interesting watch for anyone into character-driven dramas.
