So, 'Resident Evil: Childhood' is quite the curiosity. It’s a feature that originally started out as a zombie flick made by kids back in '91, only to be shelved until 2020 when they decided to digitally remaster it. The atmosphere is a mix of innocent fun and eerie tension, as young versions of Chris and Leon hide out in a run-down building during a zombie apocalypse. The practical effects are surprisingly impressive given the age and intent of the original footage. Pacing is a bit uneven, but it adds to the charm, really. You get this sense of genuine creativity from the kids involved, even if the humor can be a bit on the nose. Definitely something you don't see every day in the horror genre, that's for sure.
Interesting blend of childhood creativity and horror tropes.Practical effects feature a charmingly low-budget aesthetic.Offers a nostalgic look at early '90s filmmaking.
