So, 'Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City' tries to return to the roots of the franchise, pulling from the early games. The atmosphere is gritty and claustrophobic, really capturing the essence of a town gone to ruin with thick tension simmering throughout. The pacing feels a bit disjointed at times, almost like they were trying to juggle too many elements. Practical effects are a highlight, with some decent creature designs that remind you of classic horror films. The cast does a solid job—especially Kaya Scodelario as Claire, who brings a certain grit to her character. It’s a mixed bag, for sure, but it’s interesting to see them attempt to merge the lore with the cinematic experience.
Blu-ray release includes deleted scenes and commentary.Filmed in Ontario, Canada, capturing a bleak, desolate vibe.Features a blend of new and familiar characters from the games.
