Rest Stop is a pretty gritty piece of horror from John Shiban. It plays out like a nightmare on a backcountry road, blending the tension of isolation with some harsh realities of human nature. The atmosphere is thick with dread, and the pacing keeps you on the edge, especially as Nicole’s character becomes more frantic. You can feel the claustrophobia of the rest stop setting, which really adds to the tension. The practical effects have a rawness that some CGI-heavy films lack. Nicole's performance is quite compelling, capturing the mix of fear and survival instinct. It's a bit of a hidden gem for those who appreciate low-budget horror that leans into its themes without too much fluff.
