Rico is an interesting character study that leans heavily into the emotional turmoil of unrequited love. The film crafts a tense atmosphere as Rico’s desire morphs into a darker thirst for revenge when he learns that Hector, the object of his affection, is off the market. The pacing feels almost claustrophobic at times, mirroring Rico’s spiraling obsession. You can sense the rawness in the performances, even if the director is a mystery. The practical effects don’t take the spotlight but serve the narrative well, subtly enhancing the tension rather than overwhelming it. There’s something about the way it captures the vulnerability and irrationality of young love that sticks with you, making it feel personal and, at times, uncomfortable.
Focus on character development over plot.Interesting take on young love and jealousy. The atmosphere is thick; feels almost suffocating at times.
