Riders of Pasco Basin is an interesting mix of music and Western elements, directed by Ray Taylor in 1940. The film unfolds around Kirby and Evans, who are embroiled in an irrigation swindle, while newspaper editor Scott figures it all out. So he calls in Lee, who rallies up a vigilante posse to take on the corrupt Sheriff and his goons, brought in by Kirby. The tension is palpable, especially with the backdrop of a community fighting against corruption. The performances, while not exactly Oscar bait, have a genuine charm. And there’s something about that mix of music and Western tropes that gives it a unique vibe—like a little pocket of Americana that feels both familiar and refreshing. The pacing has its moments, but it keeps you engaged for the most part.
