So, Ridgeland is really interesting in how it explores the tension between ambition and loyalty. The pacing, at times, feels slow but it builds this heavy atmosphere that really draws you in. The performances from the two leads are quite compelling; you can feel the desperation of the teen wanting to break free from his circumstances, while his best friend is this grounding force, almost tragic in his efforts to keep him tethered. The use of practical effects is minimal but effective, really heightening the raw emotional moments. There's a certain realism to it, which is refreshing, and it doesn't shy away from the darker themes of friendship and sacrifice. Definitely a unique piece in the indie circuit.
