Riyad El Maati is an interesting exploration of heritage and familial bonds, set against the backdrop of a historical house that carries significant weight for its owner, al-Muti. The film does a decent job of conveying the tension between personal values and external pressures, especially with that persistent brother of Haj Hamman trying to undermine Muti. You can feel the atmosphere of nostalgia and the struggle for identity emerge as Muti clings to his home, a representation of something bigger than just bricks and mortar. The pacing varies, and while it may feel a bit slow at times, it allows the themes of loyalty and resistance to unfold gradually. Performances are solid, adding to the overall authenticity of the piece, even if the direction feels a bit uncertain at times.
