Roberta is a delightful blend of comedy, music, and romance, directed by William A. Seiter. The film has this charmingly light atmosphere that feels very much like an escapade through the jazz age. You’ve got John Kent, the football player, kind of stumbling into this world of high fashion and showbiz with the Wabash Indianians. The pacing has a nice rhythm, with musical numbers woven in that really elevate the tone. The performances, especially from the ensemble, bring a certain warmth—Scharwenka’s character adds depths of nostalgia and friendship. Plus, the practical effects and set designs from the period give it this authentic vibe you don’t see much in today’s films. Just an enjoyable ride through 1930s Americana with a European twist.
