Rollers (2021) brings a mix of pathos and humor that feels really raw. Rufus Paisley, our not-so-humble protagonist, is drowning in his own denial, clinging to the wreckage of his past in a place he loves. The 'Rollers' has this almost nostalgic vibe, a dying relic of his parents' legacy, and you can feel the weight of that history. The pacing is a bit leisurely, which kind of lets you soak in the atmosphere, but there's a ticking clock of impending loss that keeps it engaging. The performances, especially from the lead, are really grounded, making Rufus's struggles feel all too real. It’s not flashy, but there's something unique about its sincerity.
