So, this staging of Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in 2017 has a really fresh take. Laurent Pelly’s direction brings a lightness and energy that feels quite engaging. The performances by Florian Sempey as Figaro and Catherine Trottmann as Rosina strike a nice balance between humor and longing. You can actually feel the chemistry, which is sometimes lacking in more traditional productions. The pacing is really well done too, keeping things lively without rushing through the music. Jérémie Rhorer’s conducting gives it a modern flair, enhancing the orchestration nicely. The overall atmosphere is vibrant, making it a distinctive interpretation of a classic.
