Royal Bonbon is quite the curious blend of comedy, drama, and fantasy. It takes you through the gritty streets of Cap-Haitien, following this guy, King Chacha, who believes he’s the reincarnation of King Christophe. The pacing is a bit erratic, but that only adds to the dreamlike quality of the narrative. The atmosphere is rich with a sense of history and absurdity, and you can't help but feel for Chacha as he navigates his delusions amidst the ruins of a once-great castle. The practical effects, while not groundbreaking, serve the story's whimsical nature well. Performances are heartfelt, and there's an earnestness that shines through the surreal elements. It’s definitely one of those films that lingers with you in a quite unexpected way.
A unique portrayal of historical delusions.Rich in atmosphere, with a surreal tone.Explores themes of identity and liberation.
