Safe and Sound is one of those understated gems that thrives on atmosphere. The whole babysitting premise sets up an almost claustrophobic tension, and the shadowy presence lurking about? It’s pretty effectively unsettling. The director, Ian Kammer, really plays with the sound design here; that home security system, meant to put you at ease, just adds layers of dread as it beeps and whirs with every little movement. Mia’s performance is genuinely engaging, and you can feel her desperation as the night drags on. It's a slow burn but worth it for the creeping sense of paranoia it builds. The practical effects, when they do show up, are refreshingly grounded, enhancing that gritty realism. There's no grand spectacle, just a tight, suspenseful ride.
