Sakura Killers is one of those hidden gems from the late '80s that has a certain charm, despite its flaws. Yu Wang directs a somewhat formulaic plot with a few interesting twists, and Chuck Connors is, well, Chuck Connors. The pacing is a bit uneven, swinging between action sequences and quieter moments that feel like filler. But there's a gritty atmosphere to it, especially when the agents get embroiled with the Sakura assassins. The martial arts scenes are practical and sometimes raw, which adds to the film's appeal. The performances are a mixed bag; some moments shine, while others fall flat. It’s not groundbreaking, but there's something about it that feels distinctly nostalgic, a slice of '80s action with a sprinkle of espionage.
