So, this 1998 production of Saint-Saëns's 'Samson et Dalila' is really something. Elijah Moshinsky's direction captures the lushness of the score while keeping the drama tight. You get this palpable tension between the characters, especially with Plácido Domingo as Samson and Olga Borodina as Dalila—both bring depth and complexity to their roles. The pacing flows with the music, and the atmosphere is just drenched in that grand operatic feeling. The staging is rich, and the ensemble, including Sergei Leiferkus as the Grand Priest, adds layers to the narrative. Definitely has some gorgeous moments that stay with you, and the live recording gives it that raw edge. It feels alive, you know?
