Sanpietro is a quietly haunting exploration of isolation and human connection. The atmosphere is thick with a sense of voyeurism, as the titular character, a shadowy concierge, becomes almost a ghost in the lives of the tenants he observes. The film moves at a deliberate pace, allowing you to really soak in the mundane yet intimate details of the residents' lives. The performances are understated, particularly from the lead, who manages to convey a range of emotions without uttering much. What strikes me is the use of practical effects to heighten the realism of the setting, making every creak of the building feel alive. It's a film that lingers, much like its protagonist, in the corners of your mind.
