Scent of a Woman is a character study that's both rough around the edges and deeply layered. Pacino's performance as Colonel Slade is magnetic—he brings this blind, cantankerous vet to life in a way that feels raw and unfiltered. The pacing is deliberate, allowing the emotional beats to breathe, and there's something about the atmosphere of ’90s prep school that adds tension. The themes of honor, mentorship, and redemption are woven in, but it’s the interplay between Pacino and young Chris O’Donnell that really grounds it. You get this real sense of camaraderie amid the chaos. Plus, the practical effects in the tango scene are just a treat. It has its melodramatic moments, but they’re earned. Definitely a standout if you appreciate character-driven narratives.
