Screwed is an early work by Colm BairĂ©ad that carries a raw energy typical of first shorts. The atmosphere is tense, almost claustrophobic, reflecting the struggles of its characters in a way that feels very intimate. Though the premise remains a bit elusive, you can feel the weight of the themes heâs exploringâperhaps the complexities of relationships or the pressures of society. The pacing does feel somewhat experimental, which might put some viewers off, but I think it adds to its uniqueness. Performances are gritty and genuine, showing BairĂ©ad's interest in real, grounded portrayals. Not much in terms of practical effects, but the film's emotional essence is what sticks with you.
