Segey (2018) dives into the life of Segey Spivak Laurson, a painter exiled in Argentina. His fierce devotion to the Iguazú Falls is palpable, and you can feel his struggle as he balances this obsession with unexpected ties to his homeland. The documentary's pacing meanders a bit, echoing the flowing water of the falls themselves, creating an immersive atmosphere. You get these glimpses of his artistic process, raw and unfiltered, which feels intimate yet distant. There’s a tension between his dreams and the call from Russia that adds a layer of conflict to the narrative. The cinematography does a remarkable job of capturing both the beauty of the falls and the somber undertones of his journey. Quite a distinctive take on the artist's life, really.
