Shopping Tour is a really odd mix of genres, you know? It’s got that quirky blend of comedy, drama, and horror that feels pretty unique. The film captures a group of Russian tourists on this shopping spree in Finland, which seems harmless enough until it spirals into chaos with Finnish cannibals. The use of a cell-phone for filming adds this raw, almost documentary-like quality, especially through the eyes of the teenage son. It’s an interesting commentary on consumerism too, juxtaposed against the grotesque reality they face. The practical effects are not overdone, which is refreshing, and the performances have this kind of genuine awkwardness that fits the tone. The pacing is a bit uneven, but it somehow works with the story’s absurdity.
