Showgirls is one of those films that divides audiences, but it's a fascinating exploration of ambition in the seedy underbelly of Las Vegas. Nomi Malone, played by Elizabeth Berkley, is this raw, unfiltered character you can't really look away from. Paul Verhoeven's direction is both provocative and exaggerated, almost like a parody of itself at times. The pacing can feel a bit erratic, but it fits the chaotic world of showbiz. You have to appreciate the practical effects and choreography in the dance scenes, which are strikingly bold. Plus, the performances, especially from Gina Gershon as Cristal, add layers to the already drama-filled atmosphere. It's a film that generates conversation, for sure.
