Slaughter Night is one of those earlier gems from Ittenbach that kind of flies under the radar. The atmosphere is thick with dread, and the pacing keeps you guessing. It's raw and grungy, much like some of the more underground horror flicks of the time. The practical effects, oh man, they have a certain rough charm – not overly polished but effective in creating that visceral shock. The performances are just what you'd expect from that era: not always top-notch, but they bring an earnestness that fits the film's grim tone. The themes of isolation and survival play out in a brutal way, which I think really sets it apart from more polished entries of the late '80s. Definitely a fascinating watch for collectors interested in the evolution of horror.
