Sleepwalking Through the Walk Simulators is a curious piece. It’s Xi Chen’s debut feature, which, for an animation, has a very distinct philosophical bent. The pacing is contemplative, often inviting you to reflect rather than just watch. Characters navigate through their own stories in this almost dreamlike state, which feels both personal and universal. The animation style is pretty unique too, leaning on a mix of surreal imagery and vibrant colors that seem to breathe life into these ordinary narratives. There’s something about the way the characters interact that’s almost meditative, like you're wandering through their thoughts. The film challenges the viewer to consider the meaning of existence in a world that often feels scripted. It’s not your typical animated fare, that's for sure.
