So, 'Smoke n Suds' is this quirky little animated gem that drops you right into late 80's Hell's Kitchen. The animation style? It's got that lo-fi vibe, kind of raw and gritty, which really sets the tone for these two punks just hanging out at a laundromat. You know that feeling of aimlessness but with a hint of rebellion? That’s all over this film. It’s strangely calming yet chaotic at the same time, much like early Jarmusch. The pacing is slow, almost meditative, and it pulls you into their mundane yet colorful world. The dialogue is sharp, though, and you can feel the chemistry between the characters, making it stand out in a sea of more polished animations.
Great example of underground animation from the late 2010s.The atmosphere really echoes that gritty NYC punk scene.Ideal for those who appreciate unconventional storytelling.
