So, this version of Snow White from 2000 is pretty intriguing. Directed by Monteiro, it really veers away from the flashy fairy tale visuals we often expect. Instead, you've got this almost entirely black screen for much of the film, which forces you to really listen to the voices and the narrative unfolding. It's a slower pace, letting you soak in the atmosphere. The themes dive into the darker sides of the fairy tale, echoing Walser's radical take. The performances might surprise you too; they bring a unique intensity that grabs your attention despite the minimalist visuals. It’s a fascinating take, definitely not what you’d expect from a Snow White film.
