So, 'Son of God' is set against the tumultuous backdrop of Roman-occupied Judea, which really establishes this heavy atmosphere right from the start. You get this palpable tension with the Jewish people under oppressive rule, and the pacing feels contemplative, almost meditative, as it builds toward Jesus’s arrival. The performances are earnest, especially the portrayal of Caiaphas—a character caught in this tricky position of authority. Visually, the film opts for a straightforward aesthetic, but there’s an interesting use of practical effects that grounds it. While it sometimes leans into melodrama, it still manages to present some thought-provoking themes about faith, power, and resistance that resonate beyond the screen. Not a typical biblical epic, I’d say.
Set in a politically charged environment.Focuses on themes of power and faith.Earnest performances, especially from Caiaphas.
