S.O.S Tidal Wave is an interesting blend of crime and disaster elements, all wrapped in a pre-war sensibility. The pacing feels a bit uneven at times, but it captures that tension of a man caught in a moral quandary. Our protagonist, a news reporter, is pressured by a gangster, which adds an undercurrent of danger throughout. The use of stock footage from RKO's Deluge is notable; it creates a stark contrast between the mundane world of broadcasting and the chaos of a tidal wave looming over it. The performances are fairly solid, though not groundbreaking. The film’s atmosphere, with that mix of everyday life and imminent catastrophe, really sets it apart from typical crime dramas of the era.
