South to the Horizon is an interesting blend of action and drama, a bit gritty and raw, you know? Seiji Izumi really captures the desperation and tension in Okinawa, where revenge is the central theme. Tetsu's untimely murder by yakuza sets the stage, and Ryo’s quest for vengeance is filled with some unexpected turns. The pacing has this nice rhythm that keeps you engaged, even when it slows down for character moments. The performances, especially between Ryo and Tetsu's girlfriend, add a layer of emotional weight that you don't always find in action flicks. And those practical effects? Not overly flashy but they serve the story well, adding to the grounded feel of the whole film. It's a solid watch for fans of the genre, definitely has its unique charm.
