So, 'Space: 1999,' directed by Lee H. Katzin, is quite an experience. The series kicks off with this explosive event that sends Moonbase Alpha hurtling through the cosmos. The tone is pretty serious, almost somber at times, which I find adds to the tension. You really feel the isolation of the crew, trying to survive in a universe that’s suddenly much more dangerous. The practical effects, despite their age, have a certain charm, especially the model work. And the pacing? It sometimes drags, but it sort of fits the contemplative nature of the show. The performances are really engaging though; you can sense the desperation and determination of the crew. It's definitely distinctive in its approach to sci-fi storytelling.
