So, Speed 2: Cruise Control is an interesting sequel that takes the high-octane chaos of the first film onto a cruise ship, which is a bit of a curveball. Jan de Bont directs again, and while the pacing might not have the same relentless urgency as the original, it still has its moments of tension. The hijacking premise sets up a unique atmosphere on the open sea, though some might find the hijacker's motivations a bit thin. Keanu Reeves was replaced by Jason Patric, who does his best, but there's definitely a different energy here, especially with Sandra Bullock's Annie trying to keep everything together. The practical effects have a certain charm, even if they're not groundbreaking. It's definitely distinct in its own way, offering a different kind of thrill ride.
