Splatter University is one of those early '80s slashers that really leans into that grimy college atmosphere. The plot's simple - a sociology teacher gets caught up in a string of murders on campus. But it’s the practical effects that stand out, delivering some genuinely grotesque moments that make you appreciate the era's craft. The pacing has that classic slow burn, which builds tension nicely, and the performances, while not Oscar-worthy, fit the tone of the film really well. There’s this off-kilter blend of horror and dark humor that runs through it, which I think is what makes it distinctive, even among similar films of the time.
