This one is a bit of an odd duck in the Star Trek series. Leonard Nimoy directs and it has a lighter tone compared to its predecessors. The whole time travel to 20th century Earth premise is a fresh twist that lets the crew interact with modern society in a hilarious way. The pacing is brisk, and you really get a sense of camaraderie among the crew in their quest to save the planet. The practical effects, especially the whale scenes, hold up well enough considering the era. It's also interesting how it tackles ecological themes without being too preachy. You can tell the cast had a good time making it, and that comes through in their performances.
Originally released on November 26, 1986.Part of the Star Trek film series, fourth entry.Nimoy reprised his role as Spock and directed this installment.Notable for its environmental themes and humor.
