Stars is quite the character study, blending comedy and drama in a unique way. You’ve got Yury Derbenev, an Uzbek citizen thrust into the hustle of Moscow to fund his daughter’s treatment, but he’s a language teacher—that’s a twist. The pacing is interesting, sometimes a bit erratic, but that adds to the charm. The film tackles themes of identity and sacrifice, revealing the absurdity of life through Yury’s misadventures. The performances are solid; you can really feel the weight of his struggles. And it’s not overly sentimental, which makes the emotional beats land just right. The atmosphere is a mix of hope and despair, reflective of the protagonist’s journey. Definitely one of those films that sticks with you.
