Steel Sharks is one of those late 90s thrillers that really leans into the tension of underwater warfare. The pacing is a bit uneven at times, but it captures that gritty, claustrophobic feel of being trapped beneath the waves. The practical effects, while not always top-notch, have a certain charm, especially in the submarine interiors. You can feel the filmmakers trying to create a sense of authenticity, even if the execution wobbles. The performances are solid enough, with the cast doing their best to sell the high-stakes situation. There's a certain vibe to it that, if you're into military action flicks with that adventure edge, can be pretty engrossing. Just don’t expect anything groundbreaking.
