Still Meadows, directed by Louis Matta, is one of those low-budget gems that really plays with atmosphere. It’s got this gritty, almost claustrophobic feel, thanks to the small town setting and the way the cinematography captures the landscape. The pacing can be a bit uneven, especially in the middle, but it builds tension nicely. Owen Slater, played by an underrated actor, is a fascinating character – washed-up, flawed, and relatable, yet you feel his desperation. The practical effects are solid, adding a nice touch to the horror elements. It’s not groundbreaking, but it has its own unique vibe that can stick with you, especially if you appreciate the subtleties in indie horror.
