Stormin' Home is one of those TV movies that floats around the periphery of the 80s action-drama genre. The story centers on an aging motor-cross racer who’s seen better days, having lost both his wife and daughter to his reckless lifestyle. It’s a bit melodramatic, sure, but there’s a raw authenticity in the character's desperation, which adds depth. The pacing has this slow burn, especially in the lead-up to the big race, but it builds tension quite well. The practical effects during the racing scenes are decent for its time; you can feel the grit of the dirt and the rev of the engines. Not a blockbuster, but it has a certain charm and heartfelt moments that make it stand out in a way.
