Submerged (2005) is an interesting blend of action and thriller directed by Anthony Hickox. It has that gritty early 2000s vibe, with a loose narrative revolving around Chris Kody, who’s plucked from prison to tackle a rogue scientist wielding mind control tech. The pacing is pretty relentless, keeping your heart racing. The performances are solid, especially from the leads, who manage to inject some weight into their roles despite the sometimes ludicrous premise. There's also a noticeable reliance on practical effects that add a unique flavor, making the action sequences feel more grounded. It’s not a well-crafted, but there’s something engaging about its straightforward approach to espionage and betrayal, which gives it a bit of charm.
