Suburban Gothic is this quirky blend of comedy and horror that really nails that offbeat vibe. You've got this socially awkward guy, Ray, who's jobless and has this wild ability to chat with the dead. The pacing is a bit uneven at times, but it really plays into the whole awkwardness of the characters. The practical effects are surprisingly solid for a smaller budget, and they add a nice texture to the supernatural elements. The chemistry between Ray and the bartender, played by a rebellious spirit, is what drives the film. It's not your cookie-cutter ghost story, and it balances humor and spookiness in a way that's refreshing, even if it doesn't always hit the mark.
